Bexar County commissioners have given their support for an advanced funding agreement with TxDOT, committing up to $40 million in county funds for a two-mile spur highway on the South Side.
Project Details
The spur would run west from U.S. 281 to the Toyota plant and become part of the proposed $1.5 billion South Texas Parkway, connecting I-35 and I-37. Bexar County Acting Public Works Director David Wegmann explained how the $40 million would be spent, with $20 million for initial project costs and an additional $20 million for approved project overruns and other eligible costs.
Precinct 1 County Commissioner Rebeca Clay Flores expressed her support for the project, citing the potential $2 billion expansion by Toyota and the 2,000 new jobs it would bring. The proposed South Texas Parkway is part of long-range regional transportation planning, with South Bexar County becoming a hub for advanced manufacturing.
