A Bend teenager has achieved something extraordinarily rare: earning the top honor in Civil Air Patrol while simultaneously receiving acceptance letters from all five United States military academies. The milestone was highlighted this week by Central Oregon Daily as part of its ongoing “People You Should Know” series.
Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a volunteer organization that develops leadership, aerospace education, and emergency services skills in young people across the country. Reaching its highest cadet honor requires years of dedicated effort, rigorous testing, and demonstrated leadership — making this Bend teen’s achievement a remarkable testament to hard work and commitment.
Being accepted to all five military academies — a feat accomplished by only a tiny handful of students nationwide each year — adds another extraordinary layer to the accomplishment. The academies include the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
It was a celebratory week for the broader Bend community as well. The first-ever Bend Block Party drew crowds to the Central District, according to Central Oregon Daily, bringing neighbors together for a lively community gathering in the heart of the city.
Together, these stories reflect a community full of driven young people and neighbors eager to connect — a bright snapshot of Bend heading into the summer.
