The Bear Fire, located about 18 miles southeast of Quemado, has burned 150 acres and is zero percent contained. Fire officials say the wildfire is being fueled by gusty winds and difficult terrain.
Firefighting Efforts
Crews are working to slow the spread of the fire and protect nearby homes, private property, and other at-risk resources. Additional personnel arrived Wednesday, bringing the total number of firefighters and support staff assigned to the incident to 132.
Command of the fire is scheduled to transition on Thursday to the Gila Las Cruces Type 3 Incident Management Team. The fire is burning in an area characterized by rugged terrain and numerous standing dead trees, conditions that pose significant safety risks for firefighters working on the ground.
Authorities are urging the public to stay away from the area to ensure the safety of both visitors and firefighting personnel.
