As the August 18 primary election approaches, candidates are sharing their visions for the future of Bar Nunn. Tim Ficken, a candidate for Bar Nunn mayor, recently responded to a questionnaire about the challenges facing his constituents and how he plans to address them.
Challenges in Bar Nunn
Ficken identified managing growth without losing the community feel as the biggest challenge for Bar Nunn residents. The town is experiencing pressure from growth, including traffic, infrastructure, public safety, housing, parks, and pathways. Ficken emphasized the need to plan thoughtfully to ensure the town continues to serve its residents.
Public safety is also a concern, as Bar Nunn is the only municipality in the county without its own police department. Ficken appreciates the Sheriff’s Office but believes a strong local presence is necessary to fit the town’s needs and budget.
Addressing Challenges
If elected, Ficken plans to focus on practical planning, fiscal responsibility, and clear communication with residents. He aims to help Bar Nunn grow in a way that protects the community, supports families, and plans responsibly for the future. Ficken also wants to continue working towards responsible public safety options, including a local police presence that acts as a deterrent and community resource.
Ficken emphasized the importance of safer connectivity, including road planning, pedestrian options, and future pathways that better connect Bar Nunn to Casper and surrounding areas. He believes good planning now can prevent bigger problems later.
Qualifications
Ficken has served on the Bar Nunn Town Council and understands that local government is not about slogans, but about budgets, infrastructure, ordinances, public safety, and decisions that affect neighbors. Professionally, he works as a Purchasing Director for a hospital system, managing contracts, budgets, vendors, capital projects, and competing priorities across multiple facilities.
Ficken is a husband, father, and resident who cares deeply about Bar Nunn. He has called the town home for nearly 10 years and is running for mayor because he enjoys serving the community and believes Bar Nunn has a strong future if growth is handled thoughtfully and residents work together.
