Baltimore Weekend Events: 90s Orioles Show, Liquid Nitrogen Slushie, Glassblowing Workshop

Residents of Baltimore have a full slate of free and low‑cost activities this weekend, many of which are geared toward families and local hobbyists. The schedule includes live music, a science‑focused slushie demonstration, a book‑swap, and a hands‑on glassblowing workshop.

Friday, August 21

Summer Sounds with The New Romance – 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Belvedere Square. The indie pop group The New Romance will perform while an open‑air market offers local vendors. Children can collect a free back‑to‑school bag, and the Belvedere Square Merchants’ Association will accept donations for Baltimore children in need.

The Upside: Album Release – 6 p.m. at Baltimore Soundstage, presented by Transcendent Events. Acts include We Are Not Spies, Pat Renny, Sidequest and Just For Kicks.

Epoxy Pouring Workshop – 6 p.m. at Mystique Barrel Brewing and Lager House. Participants will learn how to create epoxy river boards, lazy susans, clocks, key‑holder shelves, coasters or mini‑pairs.

I Love the 90s Show – Post‑game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. After the Orioles’ game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the field will host a 1990s‑themed concert featuring Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc, Tag Team and Treach.

Saturday, August 22

Hampden Bizaar – 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. in front of Co‑Balt/Hampden Yards, 1014 W. 36th St. Vendors gather every other Saturday for a curated market of crafts, food and local goods.

Liquid Nitrogen Slushie Lab – 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Maryland Science Center. A demonstration shows how liquid nitrogen creates a frosty slushie, followed by a complimentary lemonade slushie served with a peppermint stick, a nod to the classic Flower Mart treat.

Book Swap – 1 p.m. at No Land Beyond. Attendees may exchange books they no longer read for new finds, fostering community literacy.

An Evening with NRBQ – 7 p.m. at Ottobar. The eclectic group NRBQ will perform a set described as innovative yet unpretentious, appealing to a wide audience.

Sunday, August 23

Glassblowing Workshop – 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Evergreen Museum & Library, Johns Hopkins University. McFadden Art Glass will guide participants through the process of creating glassblown pieces, suitable for beginners and experienced makers alike.

All events are open to the public, though some may require pre‑registration or have limited capacity. For families looking for free activities, the back‑to‑school bag giveaway and the book swap provide practical resources, while the music and science events add cultural variety. Baltimore’s diverse neighborhoods continue to offer residents affordable ways to engage with the arts, science and local commerce.

For the most up‑to‑date details, including any changes due to weather or public health guidance, please check the event organizers’ websites or contact the venues directly.
