Elena Moore, a 39-year-old woman from South Carolina, was found dead after leaving a Planet Fitness gym in Lexington. An autopsy conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina found no evidence of traumatic injury, including bruising, lacerations, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, blunt force trauma, strangulation, or other external injuries.
Investigation Ongoing
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said additional studies about Moore’s medical history and toxicology tests are required to determine the cause of death. Moore was last seen on June 11 leaving the gym, and her body was found on June 15 not far from the location.
According to Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green, media coverage of the missing person case helped lead to the tip that ended with her body being found. Police had posted a missing person flyer on Facebook on June 12, and authorities said Moore had frequently visited the Planet Fitness gym.
Moore was seen walking toward a wooded area behind a home improvement store after leaving the gym, and video also showed her walking through the parking lot of a grocery store, wearing the same clothing she had on at the gym. The events leading up to her disappearance remain unclear.
A week before she vanished, Moore was seen on a front door camera in front of an apartment, appearing disoriented. She had tried to enter the apartment, and later was seen looking through packages outside another neighbor’s apartment, reportedly saying she had no idea what she was doing.
