Austin City Council Candidate Forums Scheduled Across Five Districts

Austin residents who care about local governance and family‑focused neighborhoods now have a clear opportunity to hear directly from the candidates vying for the five contested City Council seats on the November ballot. The city, the Ethics Review Commission, and the League of Women Voters Austin Area are sponsoring a series of moderated public forums that will be held in each of the five districts with races this fall.

When and Where the Panels Take Place

All panels begin at 6:30 p.m. and are open to the public. The schedule is as follows:

  • District 3: October 1 at the Learning and Research Center, 5202 E. Ben White Blvd., Ste. 500.
  • District 5: September 17 at the South Austin Senior Activity Center, 3911 Menchaca Road.
  • District 8: September 21 at the Hampton Branch at Oak Hill, 5125 Convict Hill Road.
  • District 1: October 15 at the Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Road.
  • District 9: (date to be announced) – venue details will be posted on the city’s website.

Each forum will be streamed live on ATXN in both English and Spanish, and the audio will be broadcast on KAZI FM 88.7, ensuring that families and working‑class citizens can tune in from home or the car.

How to Participate

Austinites may submit questions for the moderators to ask candidates by emailing [email protected] or calling 512‑451‑6710. Interpretation services are available for any panel; simply request assistance through the city’s 3‑1‑1 line ahead of the event.

Election Logistics and Additional Ballot Items

In addition to the district council races, voters citywide will decide on two bond propositions and several charter amendments that affect local services and infrastructure. The voter registration deadline is October 5, and early voting runs from October 19‑30. Mail‑in ballot applications must be received by October 23, and Election Day is November 3.

If no candidate secures at least 50 % of the vote in a district, a runoff will be required in December. Should a runoff be necessary, additional candidate panels are scheduled for November 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.

Why These Forums Matter

These public panels embody the principle of individual liberty by giving citizens direct access to the people who may soon shape local policies on schools, public safety, and community development. They also reinforce traditional family values by encouraging parents to become informed about candidates who will make decisions affecting their children’s neighborhoods, parks, and schools.

By attending in person or watching the live streams, Austinites can evaluate each candidate’s stance on issues such as responsible budgeting, public‑safety funding, and preserving the unique character of Austin’s neighborhoods. The forums provide a transparent, faith‑respectful environment where community members can ask tough questions and hear honest answers.

Stay Informed

More details about the November 3 election, including sample ballots and voter guides, are available on the city’s official website. The League of Women Voters also offers comprehensive election information for those seeking additional guidance.
