Athletics All-Star first baseman Nick Kurtz will visit a hand specialist in Los Angeles after his right thumb injury caused him to sit out Sunday for the second straight day.
Injury Update
Kurtz was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 11 due to the injury and was activated on July 25. However, he has continued to have troubles with the thumb since his return, going 1-for-18 with 11 strikeouts in seven games.
Manager Mark Kotsay said the team will wait to see what comes from the appointment before making a decision on Kurtz. Shortstop Jacob Wilson also missed Sunday’s game due to patellar tendonitis in his knee.
Infielder Zack Gelof is slated to begin a rehab stint on Tuesday, while the A’s have lost several players to injury, including Brent Rooker and Shea Langeliers.
