Asbestos contamination has stopped work at a downtown Sioux Falls hotel. State regulators accuse the building’s owner of exposing tenants to hazardous construction dust and attempting to evade environmental oversight.
The Division of Hazardous Waste Management at the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources confirmed that asbestos-containing materials had been disturbed and removed by uncertified workers at the 141 N. Main Ave. building. This prompted the closure of the U.S. Bank branch housed on the first floor last month.
