The Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office is conducting the ‘Extreme Safety’ campaign through August 16 to promote safe behaviors during the back-to-school season.
Safety Tips
The campaign encourages motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists to practice safe behaviors, such as obeying posted speeds, putting phones down, and stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks.
Cyclists are reminded to wear helmets, check their bikes before riding, and use lights and reflective gear after dark. Pedestrians should use sidewalks, cross at marked crossings, and make eye contact with drivers before stepping off the curb.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 73 pedestrians and pedalcyclists were killed on Arkansas roadways in 2024, and the state recorded 178 serious pedestrian injuries and 50 serious pedalcyclist injuries.
