Arizona’s Tyler Michelini Advances to NCAA Championships in Shot Put

Arizona’s track and field team made a strong showing at the NCAA West Regionals in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with shot putter Tyler Michelini leading the way. Michelini’s impressive throw of 19.48 meters earned him a fourth-place finish, securing his place at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, scheduled for June 10-14.

In addition to Michelini’s success, five other Arizona athletes advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective track events. Mason Lawyer, the Big 12 champion, qualified in both the 100m and 200m dashes, finishing sixth and twelfth, respectively. James Onanubosi also advanced in the 200m, while Lawi Ngetich moved forward in the 1500m event.

Arizona’s hurdlers John Paredes and Parker Duskin showed their prowess in the 110m hurdles, both securing spots in the quarterfinals with times of 13.52 and 13.63, respectively. The Wildcats’ 4x100m relay team, featuring Onanubosi, Paredes, Duskin, and Lawyer, will also compete in the upcoming quarterfinals.

Women’s Competition Begins

The women’s events are set to begin on Thursday, with 11 Arizona athletes ready to compete. Fans can follow the live results online and watch the events streamed on ESPN+.
