The University of Arizona’s volleyball team held its Red-Blue intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, with the Red team winning in four sets (20-25, 27-25, 25-18, 15-10). The Red team outperformed the Blue team in kills, hitting percentage, and blocking.

Team Performance

The Red team had 56 kills, a .181 hitting percentage, and 10 blocks, while the Blue team had 35 kills, a .109 hitting percentage, and 5 blocks. Both teams had 4 aces but struggled with serving.

Destiny Ndam-Simpson, a transfer from Creighton, had 24 kills on .177 hitting and showed promise as a potential scorer for the team. Payton Woods had some success on the attack but also showed areas for improvement, with 4 kills and 5 errors.

Coach’s Comments

Arizona head coach Rita Stubbs praised Ndam-Simpson’s performance, saying, “She can do it all as an attacker.” Stubbs also highlighted the need for improvement in serving, stating, “We have to be able to serve the ball in the court… We’re missing balls that were way too long, that there was not a chance that it was going to go in.”

The competition for the setter position continues, with Mo Siapani and Harmony Sample both showing promise. Siapani’s sets resulted in a .357 kill percentage, while Sample’s sets had a .248 kill percentage.
