Apple appoints John Ternus as CEO, succeeding Tim Cook after 15 years

Apple confirmed that John Ternus will assume the role of chief executive on Tuesday, succeeding Tim Cook after a 15‑year stretch that saw the company’s market value climb to $4.6 trillion. The transition comes at a pivotal moment for the technology giant as it seeks to catch up in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence arena.

AI and product development

Since unveiling its first AI‑focused updates to Siri earlier this year, Apple has emphasized privacy‑first, everyday‑use features. Ternus, a longtime hardware engineer who helped develop the Apple Watch, AirPods and Apple Vision Pro, will need to broaden his focus beyond hardware to steer the company’s AI strategy and keep pace with rivals.

Supply chain and government relations

The new CEO will also navigate ongoing supply‑chain questions, particularly as Apple’s manufacturing footprint remains heavily tied to Asian partners. Maintaining a constructive relationship with President Donald Trump, who praised Cook publicly on Tuesday, will be another priority. Cook is expected to remain involved as executive chairman, helping Ternus preserve the company’s rapport with the administration.

Upcoming product launch

Ternus is set to headline Apple’s next iPhone launch event next week at the company’s Cupertino, California headquarters, signaling continuity in the brand’s flagship offerings while charting a new direction in AI and services.
