Healthcare System Criticized

Ocasio-Cortez criticized the healthcare system, saying it fuels anxiety, especially among minority and low-income groups. She pointed to the corporatization of certain government organizations and the rising cost of healthcare as contributing factors to the MAHA movement’s growing popularity.

Ocasio-Cortez also recalled her previous work in the House of Representatives on PFAS contamination, which she referred to as ‘forever chemicals.’ She noted that big companies have been dumping these toxic substances, poisoning communities, and then paying off politicians to ignore the issue.

Racial Disparities in Healthcare

Ocasio-Cortez also addressed the racial disparities in the healthcare system, citing the history of mistreatment and distrust within the medical community toward minorities. She said that this lack of trust is ‘oftentimes very valid and very legitimate’ and that it’s not something that can be fixed by simply telling people not to worry.
