Ankeny has resumed full hours at its four splash pads, despite the ongoing Central Iowa Water Works lawn watering ban. The city had previously reduced splash pad hours to conserve water for essential needs.
The decision to resume full hours comes ahead of expected hot weather in Central Iowa. Other metro cities, including Des Moines, Johnston, and Urbandale, have not resumed full splash pad hours.
Water Conservation Efforts
Central Iowa Water Works has reported a reduction in water usage since the mandatory lawn watering ban took effect on June 8. The ban is in place to conserve water for essential uses, such as drinking, cooking, and bathing.
Tammy Madsen, a representative from Central Iowa Water Works, stated that the reduction in usage has allowed the authority to continue providing safe drinking water. However, Madsen emphasized the need for continued conservation efforts, especially with hot weather expected in the coming days.
Residents are reminded that the ban is for grass only and does not apply to other summertime plants, such as flowers or vegetables. As long as watering is done in a wise manner, it is perfectly okay to water these plants.
