Ana Navarro pushes back on Hunter Biden’s claim that President Trump is a dictator

During a two‑part interview on “Bleep! with Ana Navarro,” the former “View” co‑host confronted former President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, after he labeled President Trump a dictator. Biden told Navarro that the nation had “already” lost its democracy under Trump, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming midterm elections.

Hunter Biden’s accusations

Hunter Biden said, “He is a dictator … in no uncertain terms. Everybody understands this. He has broken the system. It is gone. It is completely broken.” He added that the confirmation hearings for Trump’s personal attorney, Todd Blanche, to become Attorney General were evidence of a broken system. Biden also claimed the president had used his office to attempt to jail journalists, citing the prosecution of Don Lemon for covering an anti‑ICE protest that disrupted a church service in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Navarro’s response

Navarro stopped short of calling Trump a dictator, but she did say, “He would like to be.” She drew on her own experience fleeing the Sandinista regime in Nicaragua in 1980, noting that many Cuban‑American, Venezuelan‑American and Haitian‑American exiles in Miami share similar concerns. “I still have some hope in some of the courts. And I think we still have elections,” Navarro said, emphasizing that the free press remains operational despite perceived threats.

Navarro also highlighted a broader issue: a lack of congressional oversight from Republicans to balance the president’s power. She questioned whether a Democratic majority in the House and Senate could effectively check Trump, asking, “I don’t know that they have the stomach to do some of the s— that Republicans do without any qualms.”

Past remarks and current context

Navarro’s recent comments mark a departure from earlier statements in which she warned that Trump’s behavior resembled that of a dictator. At the 2024 Democratic National Convention, she compared Trump to communist leaders, citing attacks on the free press and the placement of unqualified relatives in government jobs. More recently, in May, she described Trump as having “small dictator energy” after a golden statue of him was installed at Trump National Doral.

White House spokesperson Davis Ingle dismissed Biden’s accusation, mocking the claim that Trump is a dictator and ridiculing Hunter Biden’s remarks.

Legal backdrop

Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal attorney, was confirmed as Attorney General earlier this month. Don Lemon has pleaded not guilty to federal civil‑rights charges related to his coverage of the St. Paul protest, maintaining that he was acting as a journalist.

The exchange between Navarro and Biden underscores the ongoing partisan battle over the administration’s actions and the broader conversation about constitutional checks and balances, free‑press protections, and the role of courts in safeguarding democracy.
