American Stage, the longest-lived professional theater group in the Tampa Bay area, has revised its season schedule for 2026-27. The changes were announced after producing artistic director Helen R. Murray left the company in May. Murray had planned the original season, which included ‘Unhinged’ and ‘MacBeth, MacBeth, MacBeth’, both of which have been removed from the lineup.
New Additions to the Season
The dark comedy ‘Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. Watson – Apt. 2B’ will now take the place of ‘MacBeth, MacBeth, MacBeth’, and Steve Martin’s ‘Meteor Shower’ will replace ‘Unhinged’. Additionally, a holiday cabaret titled ‘Home For the Holidays’ has been added to the schedule.
Interim artistic director Anthony Gervais stated that the changes reflect the company’s current operational priorities and long-term sustainability. Gervais also announced a new sliding scale ticketing model to increase accessibility for new audiences.
The Beyond the Stage series, which brought live theater to unlikely spots, has been ‘paused’ for the upcoming season. Still planned for the 26-27 season are ‘A Night With Janis Joplin’ and the Demens Landing Park production ‘Shrek The Musical’.
