Albuquerque fire officials were kept busy this Fourth of July weekend, responding to 877 total fireworks calls for service. The majority of those reports were duplicates for the same areas. No citations were issued, as officials must see the individual lighting the firework to issue a citation.
The city of Albuquerque says illegal fireworks can be punishable with a citation and confiscation of these illegal fireworks. Those who also use them illegally will be issued a cease-and-desist by mail. Fire Marshal’s Office personnel also issued 62 cease-and-desist orders, bringing the 2026 total to 109.
AFR crews also responded to multiple structure fires and wildland/vegetation fires, including one in the Bosque and another in the Foothills. As a result, they will continue increased patrols through July 5.
