Albuquerque is celebrating 100 years of Route 66 this weekend with a free event featuring live music, food, and activities on Central Avenue between Girard and Washington.
Event Details
The event begins Saturday at 5 p.m. and will showcase music from different eras of Route 66’s history across four stages. The main stage will feature music from the 1970s to today, including performances by The Dezert Penguinz, Just Velvet, and The Docksiders – Yacht Rock Experience.
Fourteen food trucks will be on-site, offering a Route 66-themed menu that includes items like green chile cheeseburgers, root beer floats, Duke City melts, cheesy bacon fries, and chile relleno egg rolls. Attendees can also shop from local artisans, enjoy free activities for kids such as face painting and a climbing wall, and check out a classic car show.
The city is providing free park-and-ride services for the event. Those interested should park in the lot on the southwest corner of Lomas Boulevard and University Boulevard. Free buses will run from the lot to University of New Mexico’s Johnson Field next to Girard Boulevard throughout the event.
