Alaska’s gubernatorial candidates have varying levels of in-state versus out-of-state funding. Shelley Hughes, a Republican, ranks first with the highest ratio of Alaskan dollars and donors compared to out-of-state dollars and donors.
Funding Breakdown
According to a recent analysis, Hughes has a ratio of 64 Alaskan dollars to every 1 out-of-state dollar. Click Bishop, also a Republican, ranks second with a ratio of 25:1, while Tom Begich, a Democrat, ranks third with a ratio of 12:1.
Treg Taylor and Dave Bronson ranked in the middle of the list, with Taylor raising 5 times more Alaskan dollars than out-of-state dollars and Bronson raising 2 times more Alaskan dollars than out-of-state dollars. Matt Heilala and Adam Crum raised approximately equal parts in-state and out-of-state dollars, while Bernadette Wilson received more out-of-state dollars than in-state dollars.
The analysis was conducted using campaign funding data from the Alaska Public Offices Commission. The data shows the following ratios of Alaskan dollars to out-of-state dollars: Hughes (64:1), Bishop (25:1), Begich (12:1), Taylor (5:1), Bronson (2:1), Wilson (2:1), Heilala (1:1), and Crum (1:1).
