Alabama’s football team has a new competition brewing at the right tackle position. Two transfers, Nick Brooks from Texas and Jayvin James from Mississippi State, are vying for the spot. Brooks, a 6-foot-7, 333-pound sophomore, started three games at different positions for Texas last season. James, a 6-foot-5, 317-pound senior, started at left tackle for Mississippi State before switching to right tackle at Alabama.
Competition Heats Up
Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb expressed excitement about the competition between the two players. ‘They both did a good job. They battled back and forth in the spring,’ Grubb said. ‘Seeing Nick in some different spots was really good. But both those guys – obviously Nick’s massive, uses his size well. He’s an incredible athlete for his size. And then Jayvin is probably one of the most savvy players we have up front.’ Alabama returns to practice on August 7 and is set to open the season on September 5 against East Carolina.
