Actor Tyler Mane, who played Sabretooth in the 2000 movie ‘X-Men’, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer. In a video posted on Instagram, Mane said he will be undergoing chemotherapy and is speaking out to raise awareness about the disease.
Raising Awareness
Mane, 59, said he initially thought to keep his diagnosis a secret but eventually decided to speak out. He described the condition as ‘super rare’, saying ‘only 1% of breast cancers are in men’, which explains why there is still stigma around it. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in 100 cases of breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is in men.
Mane also included a brief clip of himself in hospital, hooked up to an IV, and raised his middle finger, mouthing the words ‘f**k cancer’. He posted an update after a second day of chemotherapy, appearing emotional and thanking people for their love and outreach.
Mane’s decision to speak out is aimed at raising awareness about the disease, particularly among men. He said that men are more likely to be diagnosed at advanced stages because it’s not talked about and not looked for. Several factors can influence a man’s likelihood of developing breast cancer, including age, family history, and being overweight, according to the CDC.
