New leaders have been appointed to the Alabama STEM Council to boost education in the state. Kristen Julbert from Regions Bank and Kate Killebrew, representing nonprofit STEM and business sectors, have been named by Gov. Ivey as regional congressional district representatives.
Representing West Alabama
Julbert, from Birmingham, was appointed the 4th Congressional District of West Alabama representative, while Killebrew, from Abbeville, will represent West Alabama’s 6th Congressional District. They will work to strengthen STEM education, support regional collaboration, and connect students with career opportunities in high-demand industries.
Other district representatives selected include Dr. Charles Elliott, medical industry; Farley Thompson Fink, aerospace industry; Matthias Goetz, automobile industry; Daniel Mullenix, agriculture and advanced services; and Jeremy Doggette, manufacturing industry.
According to Alabama Department of Workforce Secretary Greg Reed, these leaders bring a unique perspective that will help advance STEM opportunities across Alabama. The Council will play an important role in helping students understand where STEM can take them and how those skills connect to meaningful careers in the state.
Gov. Ivey remarked that Alabama’s students deserve every opportunity to build the skills they need for the jobs of tomorrow. The appointees bring valuable experience from across the state’s leading industries and educational communities, which will help ensure the Alabama STEM Council continues preparing students for bright futures and supporting the workforce needs of the growing economy.
