Disneyland’s iconic Autopia ride will be switching to electric vehicles to comply with California’s strict emissions standards. The park must make the change by February 2027 or face shutting down the attraction.
The Autopia ride, which was one of the original attractions at the Anaheim theme park when it opened in 1955, currently uses gas-powered engines. However, due to an administrative error by Honda, the ride’s sponsor, the engines were not certified in 2023, resulting in a violation and a $56,250 fine from the California Air Resources Board.
Disney has stated that the error had no impact on the environment and is working on designing and engineering electric ride vehicles. The company plans to have the vehicles switched to electric by next year.
