Jake Lang, a conservative influencer, was banned from Texas by a judge who presided over Karmelo Anthony’s murder trial earlier this month. Lang had been seeking to lower his $1 million bond, which has kept him in custody in the Collin County jail. He faces a charge of terroristic threat to place the public in fear of serious bodily injury.
Bond Conditions
Lang’s bond was lowered to $250,000, and he was fitted with a GPS ankle monitor. The judge also banned Lang from the state of Texas, except for when he needs to come to court or visit his lawyer.
Lang’s defense attorney, Deric Walpole, argued that Lang is not a danger to the community and that his comments were rhetoric rather than a genuine threat. However, the prosecution argued that Lang’s comments were an assault on the integrity of the criminal justice system.
Lang was previously arrested in connection with the January 6 protests at the U.S. Capitol and had received a pardon from President Donald Trump.
