Enora Ilboudo, a junior at Shasta High School, is making a difference in her community by volunteering at Reciproka, a community center in Redding. Reciproka, which means reciprocity, is a place where people come together to exchange cultures, learn from each other, and receive aid when needed.
Community Center
Reciproka, located at 550 Cypress Avenue in Redding, has been hosting various events, renting space to groups, and serving the community since its opening. Enora’s mother, Renee Myriam Kalmogho, is the director and founder of the organization. Enora and her sister Shiloh have played important roles in establishing the center and engaging with community members.
At Reciproka, people can experience different cultures, try new foods, and learn about various traditions. The center also hosts events such as the annual Taste of Africa, which showcases African cultures, music, and food. Enora enjoys volunteering at the center and learning about different cultures, saying, ‘I’m learning how to interact with people and learn more about each individual.’
Volunteer Work
Enora’s volunteer work at Reciproka includes setting up chairs and tables for events, cleaning up after events, and helping with various tasks. She also participates in organizing and participating in events, such as the United Way group that teaches youth to choose curiosity over judgment. Enora’s experience at Reciproka has taught her the importance of community and the value of cultural exchange.
