Miles Russell, a 17-year-old amateur, made his US Open debut with a 2-over 72, impressing his 54-year-old playing partner Padraig Harrington.
Russell’s Impressive Debut
Russell, who is bound for Florida State, played a solid round of golf, hitting the ball straight and avoiding trouble. Harrington, a three-time major champion, was impressed by Russell’s play, saying, “He played lovely, 2-over par was the worst he could’ve shot. He hit it dead straight all day, didn’t really have himself in too much trouble at all.”
Russell, who earned his spot in the US Open through a 36-hole qualifier, was able to learn from Harrington, who has 43 worldwide victories. Despite the age difference, Russell was able to hold his own, and Harrington was impressed by the young golfer’s maturity and skill.
