ConnCAT, a nonprofit organization, is preparing to open its new $65M headquarters and workforce training center in New Haven, Connecticut. The facility, located on Dixwell Avenue, will provide hands-on career training, including medical skills like phlebotomy, as well as a digital art lab and performance areas.
Community Development
The project, known as ConnCAT Place, aims to bring transformative change to the organization and the surrounding neighborhood. ConnCAT CEO Eric Clemons expressed excitement about the grand opening, stating that the development is about workforce development, job training, and bringing services to the community.
Future phases of the development include plans to build affordable housing and a grocery store, addressing the need for fresh food in the area. The project was funded through a mix of state and federal money, grants, loans, and donations.
The grand opening is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday and is open to the public. Former student Mike Brown, who started his own business, Uncle Mike’s Food Spot, after completing the program, praised the new facilities, saying they will be great for future classes.
