Tuscaloosa City Schools (TCS) has something to celebrate this graduation season: a record-breaking 99.3% of the district’s 2026 graduates are leaving with post-secondary plans in hand, according to a report touted by the district this week.
The milestone reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to preparing students not just for a diploma, but for what comes next — whether that means college, a technical program, the military, or a career pathway. Reaching nearly universal post-secondary planning among graduates is a remarkable achievement for any school system, and Tuscaloosa’s students and educators deserve recognition for hitting this high-water mark.
The good news from TCS didn’t stop there. The district also announced new leadership appointments at two of its elementary schools. Cay Strickland has been named the new principal at Taylorville Primary School, and TCS has also named a new principal for Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School. Fresh leadership at the building level often brings renewed energy and vision to school communities, and families at both campuses have reason to look forward to the year ahead.
Together, these developments paint an encouraging picture of a school system investing in its students’ futures while also strengthening the teams that guide them every day. Congratulations to Tuscaloosa City Schools’ Class of 2026 and to the educators who helped get them there.
