The Lenexa City Council has unanimously approved a resolution deeming the Radisson Hotel location at 12601 W. 95th St. as unsafe and dangerous. The decision was made after a public hearing, during which the city’s legal counsel presented evidence of 21 different violations cited by the city.
Violations and Concerns
Problems with the building include smoking outlets, rotted beams, and mold issues. The city council’s decision sets a timeline for the property owners to address these issues. The owners, Lenexa Vision and Kansas Hotels, will have to obtain an engineering report within 30 days and submit a comprehensive plan for either obtaining full compliance or removal of the structure by August 17.
Councilmember Mark Charlton stated that the building is unsafe, citing his experience as a contractor. Councilmember Courtney Eiterich expressed concerns about the owners’ lack of urgency in addressing the issues, despite having plenty of time and notice.
Next Steps
If the property owner decides to demolish the hotel, they would be required to do so within 90 days. If they choose to repair it, they would have to complete all repairs and obtain city approval within 180 days. The city council’s decision reflects the community’s concerns about the hotel’s safety and the need for prompt action.
