The City of Frisco has launched a free pilot transportation service designed to shuttle people through the historic downtown Rail District. The new service, called Rail District “Boxcar,” pays tribute to the area’s railroad heritage and is currently in operation.
Service Details
Two vans are circulating through downtown, with one Boxcar seating six passengers and the other accommodating up to 12. The route includes 13 stops, running from World Cup Way on the west end to North County on the east, traveling along Main and Elm Streets and passing through Frisco Square with a stop at City Hall.
Brian Moen, assistant director of Engineering Services, tied the pilot to broader efforts to reshape downtown. “When we began the downtown revitalization project, we removed on-street parking on Main Street in an effort to widen sidewalks and improve walkability,” Moen said. “As we worked to make downtown more pedestrian friendly, we’re piloting this transportation service to provide our residents and visitors convenient, easy access to our downtown merchants.”
The Boxcar operates Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
