A former CNN anchor-turned-YouTuber, Jim Acosta, hosted historian Heather Cox Richardson, who suggested that the same ideas that motivated the UFC White House event were similar to those that led to lynchings in the 19th century.
Richardson’s Comments
Richardson condemned the use of an honor guard at the Lincoln Memorial to present the fighters, stating that President Trump was ‘deliberately perverting those things that Americans hold dear.’ She argued that Trump was using the event to ‘tear apart’ the cultural fabric of America, and that this was part of a larger cultural war that turns White Americans against marginalized people of color.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle responded to Richardson’s criticism, saying that the event was a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and that anyone who found a problem with it suffered from ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome.’
