Four individuals are being hailed as heroes after they helped rescue a driver who was trapped in a burning vehicle in Fulton County, Indiana.
According to State Police Sergeant Steven Glass, the incident occurred on June 9, 2026, when a vehicle crashed on State Road 17 near County Road 900 South. The vehicle overturned and caught fire, with the driver trapped inside.
Two nearby residents, Jeff Smith and Sam Smith, were attempting to help the driver when ISP Captain Bob Burgess and First Sergeant Josh Rozzi arrived at the scene. Despite the intense flames, the four individuals worked together to extricate the driver from the vehicle.
The driver was taken to a hospital and has since recovered. The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver suffered a medical emergency, which caused the vehicle to run off the road and overturn.
Sergeant Glass praised the actions of the citizens and the troopers, saying that they undoubtedly prevented serious injury or death to the driver.
