Ross Schriftman is running for Wyoming House District 37. As part of Oil City News’ election coverage, Schriftman answered questions on the challenges facing his constituents, how he plans to address them, and his qualifications for the role.
Challenges Facing Constituents
Schriftman identified the rising costs of living, including residential property taxes and everyday necessities like food and energy, as crucial challenges. He supports reducing residential property taxes and shifting the first 4% of sales tax to a 50/50 split between the state and local governments.
Schriftman also expressed concern about the affordability of health insurance, citing the negative impact of the “Affordable Care Act” on Wyomingites. He plans to encourage the Congressional delegation to repeal this law and promote Association Health Plans to increase access to affordable insurance.
Qualifications and Plans
With over 50 years of experience as a self-employed licensed insurance agent and having served as a field auditor for the Pennsylvania Auditor General, Schriftman believes his knowledge and expertise will serve him well in the legislative process. He hopes to serve on the Labor, Health and Social Services Committee and the Management Audit Committee.
Schriftman aims to be a watchdog for taxpayers’ money, given the significant increase in the state budget from $1.4 billion in 2003 to $10 billion currently. He also plans to work with local officials to balance the need for housing with the protection of open spaces in the Casper area.
