The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. has turned green again due to residual algae. The pool was recently refilled and repainted after renovations.
Renovations and Algae
According to an Interior Department spokesperson, the algae is a normal part of the early process of restarting operations at the reflecting pool. The National Park Service invested in a state-of-the-art ozone nanobubbler filtration system to keep algae out.
The Trump administration has been touting the newly renovated Reflecting Pool, with Trump bragging about the $14.2 million project in public remarks. The pool is one of the most iconic sites in Washington, D.C., and was originally built in the 1920s.
