Boston Prepares for Weekday World Cup Match

Boston is gearing up for its second World Cup match, with the Iraq vs. Norway game scheduled for Tuesday. The city expects heavy traffic and crowds, as the match coincides with the weekday commute.

Street Closures and Traffic Advisory

A series of street closures will be in place around South Station, starting Tuesday morning. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is advising drivers to expect delays in the Foxborough area and to plan ahead.

The MBTA will implement a Traffic Management Plan, closing Summer Street from Purchase Street at Dewey Square to Dorchester Avenue from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Temporary traffic and parking restrictions will be in place on Summer Street, Atlantic Avenue, and Essex Street.

Public Transportation

The MBTA is encouraging fans to use public transportation to get to the game. More than 19,000 people took the Commuter Rail to Saturday’s game, and the MBTA said that everyone made it to Foxborough with at least an hour to get through security before kickoff.

Interim Secretary of Transportation and MBTA General Manager Phil Eng said that his teams have committed to making sure that with each subsequent match, they implement any possible modifications that can improve the experience and ensure safety for all.
