Michael Allen, a Colorado native with family roots extending to before Colorado achieved statehood, is running for Attorney General. He has over 20 years of experience in criminal prosecution, including work in the Kansas Attorney General’s Office and as District Attorney in the 4th Judicial District.
Experience and Qualifications
After graduating from Arvada West HS in 1991, Allen enlisted in the US Navy and served as an Aviation Electronics Technician. He has been married to his wife Heidi for 31 years and has two sons. As District Attorney, he led a large office with over 250 employees and was twice selected as the 4th Judicial District homicide prosecutor of the year.
Allen’s top policy priorities include strengthening public safety, reducing crime, and protecting consumers. He plans to aggressively attack fentanyl trafficking and organized crime, and to reduce the cost of living by decreasing crime rates.
Policy Priorities
Allen believes that Colorado has seen crime skyrocket alongside criminal justice reform legislation that has often sided with criminal actors and left crime victims exposed. He wants to reorient efforts towards strengthening public safety and reducing crime. He also plans to focus on reducing fraud and corruption, including elder financial exploitation and insurance fraud.
Allen thinks that one issue being overlooked in the race is insurance fraud and consumer protection vulnerabilities resulting from natural disasters. He believes that the Colorado Attorney General has direct authority to investigate deceptive trade practices and instances of complex fraud that often arise in the aftermath of a devastating natural disaster.
