Fort Laramie National Historic Site in Wyoming is hosting a series of free special events for the 2026 summer season, spanning from Memorial Day weekend through early August. The park features daily living history demonstrations, including soldiers, traders, and laundresses.

Summer Event Schedule

The summer programs are officially underway at Fort Laramie National Historic Site! Starting Tuesday, June 16th, living historians dressed in 1800s-era uniforms and clothing will be on site every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Ranger programs will be offered daily at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., each highlighting different aspects of Fort Laramie’s history. On Saturdays and Sundays, join them for historic weapons programs at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. We strongly recommend calling ahead to confirm these demonstrations. All programs are weather dependent.

Originally established as a private fur trading fort in 1834, Fort Laramie evolved into the largest and best-known military post on the Northern Plains before its abandonment in 1890. Nicknamed the “Grand Old Post,” Fort Laramie witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories.

July 4: 250th Independence Day Celebration (Independence Day)
July 11 (8:30 p.m.): Astronomy Night
July 31 – Aug 2: Fur Trade Event
Aug 7-9: 1866 Living History Weekend: The Circle of Fire & Lantern Tour.

Daily & Weekly Summer Activities:
Living History: Daily, volunteers and rangers demonstrate 19th-century life, including cooking, laundry, and blacksmithing.
Weapons Demonstrations: Firing of the Mountain Howitzer cannon occurs Friday through Sunday.
Guided Tours: Ranger-led tours of the historic buildings and grounds.
Junior Ranger Program: Children can participate to earn a special ribbon.
