The Dallas Wings, the WNBA team currently playing at College Park Center on the University of Texas at Arlington campus, are finalizing their home game location for next year. Despite several games scheduled at the American Airlines Center in Dallas this season and the last, the Wings CEO says they are not interested in making the AAC their full-time home.
Future Plans
Wings CEO Greg Bibb stated that the plan is to play at a renovated Dallas Memorial Auditorium and make it their home venue for the next 15 years. Memorial Auditorium would be rebuilt next to the currently under-construction Dallas Convention Center. The Oak Cliff practice facility is now under construction after a year of delays by the city.
The Wings will play three of their 22 home games in 2026 at the AAC, and they plan to play there in 2027. However, the team faces scheduling conflicts in the 2028 through 2030 seasons due to the Mavericks and Stars occupying the AAC. The NHL and NBA schedules overlap with the beginning and end of the WNBA schedule.
The Mavs and Stars plan to leave the AAC after the 2030 season for new homes in North Dallas and Plano, respectively. Bibb said the Wings want their new home to remain in Downtown Dallas despite recent news. The team needs to establish a timeline for when the building will be ready.
Commitment to Downtown Dallas
Bibb wants the city of Dallas to deliver on their commitment, regardless of what happens with the Mavs and the Stars. The Wings play 20 plus home games a year and currently play in 99% capacity at College Park Center. The two games they played in Dallas last year at American Airlines Center sold out.
Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert said the city is committed to bringing its agreements with the Wings to fruition. The city remains focused on the delivery of their commitments to the Dallas Wings, including their new practice facility and home court in Dallas.
