Two teenage suspects are facing charges after an incident involving a semi-automatic rifle in Lisbon Falls, Maine, which led to a shelter in place order being issued for the neighborhood. The incident occurred on Wednesday when a male subject allegedly threatened several juveniles with the semi-automatic rifle in the area of Berry Avenue and Campus Avenue. One of the juveniles was assaulted during the incident.
Investigation and Arrests
Lisbon police responded to the scene and met with the juvenile victims. A search effort was quickly established, involving multiple area agencies, K9 units, and drone support. A perimeter was set up, and a shelter in place order was issued for the neighborhood as a precaution. Police officers were stationed at the community center to provide security while parents arrived to pick up their children from the after-school program.
During the search, K9 units found a fire that had been started in the woods while tracking the suspects. One teenage suspect was apprehended in Huston Park, and a second suspect was later located and apprehended in nearby Durham. The semi-automatic rifle used in the incident was also recovered.
A 17-year-old suspect is facing charges of arson, assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, and refusing to submit to arrest or detention. A 15-year-old suspect is facing charges of refusing to submit to arrest or detention, arson, and a probation hold. Both teens were taken to the Long Creek Youth Development Center to be held pending further court proceedings.
