Albuquerque Road Paving Project Underway

The City of Albuquerque is in the process of repaving major corridors and neighborhood streets. The Department of Municipal Development will rehabilitate portions of 12 major roadways through September while also completing paving projects in neighborhoods across the city, including Nob Hill, the North Valley, and the West Side.

Major Streets Scheduled for Improvements

Among the major streets scheduled for improvements this summer are San Mateo Boulevard, Pennsylvania Street, Girard Boulevard, University Boulevard, Goff/Five Points Road, Gonzales Road, Menaul Boulevard, Montaño Road, Unser Boulevard, Paseo del Norte, Ladera Drive, and Benavides Road.

The projects are expected to address wear and tear caused by heavy traffic, weather conditions, and aging pavement. City officials noted that roadway rehabilitation helps reduce maintenance costs over time while providing a safer driving experience for residents.

To determine which streets require attention, Albuquerque uses advanced pavement-scanning technology to assess roadway conditions throughout the city.

In addition to the summer construction schedule, several neighborhood paving projects were completed earlier this spring. Those improvements included Campbell Road in the North Valley, streets near the Candelaria and Menaul corridors, roadways in the Chama and Lomas area, Amherst Drive near Roma Avenue, and Sunrose Avenue and surrounding streets on the West Side.
