Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is defending the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) trade deal as President Donald Trump questions its future. The USMCA, which began in 2020 under President Trump, has been beneficial for Iowa, especially for agriculture.
Grassley’s Stance
Grassley stated that not reauthorizing the USMCA would be a ‘stupid approach’ given its proven value to the United States economy. He noted that there have been issues with the current USMCA, including disputes over dairy products with Canada and genetically modified corn with Mexico.
Despite these issues, Grassley believes that the USMCA has been good for Iowa and the country as a whole. He is urging President Trump to consider the benefits of the trade deal and to make tweaks rather than abandoning it altogether.
