Jersey Village Council Member Resigns

Jersey Village City Council member Michelle Martin has announced her resignation, effective at the next council meeting. Martin cited relocation outside of Jersey Village as the reason for her resignation.

Martin was first elected to Place 3 in 2021 and was reelected in the following two election cycles. In her resignation letter, Martin expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community and pride in the work accomplished during her tenure.

City Council to Fill Vacancy

Following the acceptance of Martin’s resignation, City Council members will discuss and provide direction on filling the vacancy. According to the City Charter, the vacancy will be filled through a vote of the City Council, and the appointee will serve until the next general election, scheduled for May 1, 2027.

In other news, the City Council will consider modifying the over-65 homestead exemption from $113,000 to $120,000. This change would result in a loss of $57,195 in annual revenue for the city. The council will also discuss various agenda items, including amending hotel code classifications and agreements for services related to capital improvement projects.

Jersey Village City Council regular meetings will now be held on the third Tuesday of each month for the rest of the year, unless otherwise noted. The next meeting is scheduled for June 15 at 7 p.m. in the Civil Center Auditorium.
