Soccer star Christian Eriksen is recovering after collapsing on the field during a game against Ukraine on Sunday. Eriksen, who plays for Denmark, clutched his chest and dropped to the ground in the 65th minute of the game. He received medical attention and was taken to the hospital, where he underwent tests.
Eriksen has an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) fitted to support his heart after suffering a cardiac arrest during a European Championship match in 2021. In a post on Instagram, Eriksen said he is doing well and that his ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect him when he needed it.
Support from Fans and Players
Players from around the world, including Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez and Manchester United players Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire, have sent well-wishes to Eriksen. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also sent her warmest thoughts to Eriksen and his family.
The game was abandoned after Eriksen’s collapse, with Denmark leading 2-1 at the time. Eriksen’s current team, Wolfsburg in Germany, wished him a swift recovery.
