City police made three gun-related arrests during Sunday’s Freddy Fixer Parade — and detectives are still investigating a late-afternoon shooting that took place on Orchard Street after the parade had ended, and that left an 18-year-old injured.
Gun-Related Arrests
The first arrest took place at around 3:30 p.m. near Dixwell Avenue and Henry Street. A patrol officer was able to locate a 14-year-old individual who was carrying a semi-automatic rifle in a backpack. The 14-year-old was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, and the firearm was seized.
The second and third arrests took place at around 4 p.m. near 316 Dixwell Ave. Police stopped two individuals — a 21-year-old Hamden man and a 21-year-old New Haven man — for trespassing on the property and found them to be in possession of illegal handguns. Each man was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of a high capacity magazine, theft of a firearm, and criminal trespassing in the third degree.
Shooting Investigation
At 5:47 p.m., police received a ShotSpotter alert about a shooting near the 600 block of Orchard. The shooting left an 18-year-old victim with non-life-threatening injuries. Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting and whether it was related to the parade.
