Andy Wilson, the former director of the Department of Public Safety, has officially begun his tenure as Ohio’s new attorney general. Wilson was sworn in at the Clark County Common Pleas Court, where he previously served as the county prosecutor.
Background and Priorities
Wilson’s appointment comes after the resignation of Dave Yost, who left to take a job with a nonprofit legal organization focused on religious liberty and sanctity of life issues. As the state’s attorney general, Wilson has stated that his priorities will be to protect and serve Ohioans, promote the office’s law enforcement partners, and support the employees of the AG’s office as they work to serve the people of Ohio.
A former armor officer in the Ohio National Guard, Wilson has served as a trial prosecutor in Clark County and as Governor Mike DeWine’s senior advisor for criminal justice policy. Wilson’s commitment is to work hard, be proactive, and continue the mission of protecting all Ohioans over the next seven months.
Current state auditor, Republican Keith Faber, is running against Columbus area Democrat John Kulewicz to become the next AG of Ohio in November. Meanwhile, Ohio Department of Public Safety assistant director Benjamin Suver will become the interim director of the state’s public safety department, following Wilson’s departure.
