Logan Square Preservation Hosts Tour of Endangered Music Venues

Logan Square, a vibrant neighborhood known for its rich cultural history, is once again celebrating its local music scene with the Logan Square Preservation 2026 PastPort tour. This year, the event focuses on ‘Logan Square Music: Lost and Found,’ highlighting ten endangered music venues that have played a significant role in the community’s cultural fabric.

The self-paced tour, running from Sunday through July 7, encourages participants to explore these venues, which have been integral to the neighborhood’s identity. Marcy Marzuki, a member of the Logan Square Preservation Board of Directors and event organizer, emphasizes the importance of these venues, stating, ‘We want to share the venues that make the neighborhood so much more vital and a great place to live.’

Preserving Cultural Heritage

The PastPort tour is exclusive to Logan Square Preservation members, with an annual membership fee of $25. This fee supports the organization’s mission to preserve the historical roots of Logan Square. The tour was inspired by changes in ownership, venue closures, and other impacts on the neighborhood’s live performance scene, according to Marzuki. ‘We want to keep traditions alive,’ she said. ‘We need the places that have been around forever; they’re irreplaceable.’

Participants can pick up their PastPort booklet at the Logan Square Farmers Market or at Fireside Bowl on June 11, where an exhibit of posters and photos of Logan Square’s ‘lost’ venues will be displayed. The booklet includes the history of each venue, and participants are encouraged to collect unique program stamps from each location. While purchases are not required to receive a stamp, they are encouraged to support these local establishments.

Community Engagement

Those who collect at least nine stamps will be invited to a special after-hours event at Rosa’s Lounge, a blues club that has been a neighborhood staple since 1984. This exclusive gathering will feature free snacks, memorabilia from the 1980s, and meet-and-greets with some of Chicago’s blues legends.

Marzuki urges locals to take advantage of this opportunity to explore and support the neighborhood’s longstanding venues. ‘These are our neighborhood resources. We want to use them, support them, and keep them with us,’ she said.
