Albuquerque’s Downtown ABQ MainStreet Initiative is set to invigorate the city’s heart with a new outdoor performance series. This initiative, which has been active since 2008, aims to revitalize downtown Albuquerque by supporting local artists and businesses.
Kickoff Event at Robinson Park
The series kicks off tonight at Robinson Park from 5 to 9 p.m., featuring performances by local talents such as Manuel Gonzalez, Spanish Broom, Arthur Meaders, and DJ Trizzy G. The event is free to attend, encouraging community members to enjoy live music and support small businesses.
Shawna Brown, executive director of Downtown ABQ MainStreet, emphasized the importance of a thriving downtown, stating, “Downtowns are very often the heart of a city. It’s where a lot of small businesses are doing what they do best.”
Supporting Local Talent and Businesses
The series will take place on the first Friday of each month from June to September, featuring a diverse array of live bands, poets, DJs, and more. Each performer is a local artist, and every vendor is a small business, creating opportunities for growth and increased foot traffic that benefits businesses throughout the district.
Previous projects by the initiative include the Albuquerque Art Walk, the Growers Market, and various programs to assist small businesses, all contributing to the area’s development and community engagement.
