New Caney and Porter are buzzing this weekend with a mix of fitness, family fun and charitable causes. Whether you prefer lacing up running shoes, admiring classic cars or sampling spicy chili, there’s a local event that fits the bill.
5K Beer Run – Back Pew Brewing Co.
Saturday, Nov. 7, at 8 a.m., the brewery at 26452 Sorters McClellan Road in Porter will host a 5‑kilometer run that ends with two complimentary 16‑ounce beers, a souvenir pint glass and a T‑shirt. The race benefits Family Promise of Lake Houston, a nonprofit that helps families achieve stability. Admission is $60‑$75 for adults and $45‑$60 for participants under 21. A food truck will be on site for post‑run snacks.
Lone Star Motor Madness Car Show
Also on Saturday at 9 a.m., the Northside Mustang Car Club will set up its annual car show at Bull Sallas Park, 21675 McCleskey Road, New Caney. The event raises money for Gullo’s Christmas for Kids and Honor Flight. Attendees can watch competitors vie for titles such as Best of Show, Best Paint and Best Engine, while enjoying food trucks, raffles, a silent auction and a Hot Wheels racing track. Admission is free.
Run, Walk and Shop 5K – Final Gravity Brewpub
Porter’s Final Gravity Brewpub, in partnership with Rigorous Training Gym, will host its first community 5K on Saturday, Nov. 7. The race begins at 11 a.m., followed by a market of local vendors at noon. The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and is free to join. Food from Smash Shack will be available for purchase.
Fourth Annual Chili Cook‑Off Showdown – Back Pew Brewing Co.
From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, the Myocarditis Foundation will hold its fourth Chili Cook‑Off Showdown at the same Back Pew Brewing Co. location. The fundraiser supports research into myocarditis, a heart inflammation condition. Attendees can sample a variety of chili recipes and cool drinks while voting for People’s Choice and Best Booth Presentation. Tasting tickets are $10; competing teams pay $3,000.
All events are family‑friendly, free or low‑cost, and support charitable causes that strengthen our community. Check the individual listings for any last‑minute changes, and enjoy a weekend of health, fellowship and local pride.
