Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman has expressed concerns that more scandals may surface regarding Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Maine. Platner, who is challenging Republican Senator Susan Collins, has been under intense scrutiny following the revelation of a controversial tattoo.
The controversy began when it was discovered that Platner has a tattoo of a Nazi SS ‘Totenkopf’ symbol on his chest. This has drawn criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. Senator Fetterman, when questioned by a Fox News reporter, suggested that Platner’s previous statements have been misleading. ‘Well, he lied to everybody. He said that there wasn’t any after his Nazi tattoo situation. And now there’s more and more of the things. So he’s already lied about that,’ Fetterman stated.
Fetterman further elaborated using a regional analogy, comparing the situation to hidden ranches in Texas, implying that more undisclosed issues might exist in Platner’s past. This comes amid other controversies affecting Platner’s campaign, including allegations of infidelity and scrutinized online posts.
Platner has since covered the tattoo and claimed ignorance of its historical significance, stating it was acquired during a trip to Croatia with fellow Marines in 2007. However, CNN reports have challenged his claims of ignorance. Despite these controversies, a recent UMASS Lowell poll shows Platner with a slight lead over Collins in the race.
